JJ Walker to load up on laughter at Cabana
Laughs are always the magic word at Comedy Cabana, especially this weekend with a return by Jimmie “JJ” Walker, known since the 1970s for his catch phrase “Dyn-O-mite” and a resume of TV shows such as “Good Times,” “The Love Boat” and “Fantasy Island,” and films including “Airplane!” and “Airport ’79.”
Walker will headline shows, with Todd Link and Cooter Douglas opening, at 8 and 10:15 p.m. Friday-Saturday at Comedy Cabana, for $20 or $22.
Other scheduled shows in the next month at the club, 9588 N. Kings Highway, just north of Myrtle Beach, are:

‘Muse on the Waccamaw’ Songwriting Contest begins
Create! Conway will have the “Muse on the Waccamaw” Songwriting Contest, with participants judged by songwriters and industry professionals on lyrical content, melody, stage presence, and performance.
Monthly preliminary rounds will lead to finals with the top two songwriters from each round, plus two wild-card entrants, with this schedule, all at sites in Conway, and mostly at 6:30 p.m.:
▪ Jan. 21 and March 10 at The Bottle Shop, 1015 Fourth Ave.
▪ Feb. 19 at Rivertown Roasters on Main, 337 Main St.
▪ Finals, April 2, with doors opening at 7 p.m., at Conway Glass, 209 Laurel St.
The winner from the single-elimination finals will receive a hand-blown glass trophy from Conway Glass, a full-day recording package from Southern Harmony Recording Studio in Florence, and a featured slot for Conway’s Live Oaks Art & Music Festival in October. Other contestants will receive an array of prizes from local and regional merchants.

‘FPC Promenades’ series reaches 30th season
The 30th annual “FPC Promenades” Concert Series – based at First Presbyterian Church, 1300 N. Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach – opens next week.
