Restaurant week, boat show and junior chef class top affordable activities
Holidays put a big dent in your wallet? Maybe some cheap winter fun will put a spring back in your step. Here’s a list of activities that won’t cost you an arm and a leg.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday (1/8-1/10)
Myrtle Beach Restaurant Week began on Thursday and runs through January 17. During Restaurant Week, participating restaurants will feature special prix fixe menus showcasing their cuisine (some are, of course, cheaper than others). Go to http://www.restaurantweeksouthcarolina.com/ for a list of participating restaurants, prices and menus.
On the second Friday of every month through March 11, Chapin Memorial Library is holding a Family Dance Party. Admission is free. This event, which is geared toward preschoolers but open to the entire family, includes a story, fingerplays, movement and music. The party runs from 11 a.m. to noon.
The 2016 Grand Strand Boat & Sportsman Expo begins today and runs through Sunday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Tickets are $8 for adults; $6 for seniors; $5 for kids (3-11) and free for kids under 3. This event features boat, watersport, sporting good, fishing tackle, boat dockage and boat storage vendors. It also includes fishing and boating seminars, entertainment and more. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Saturday (1/16)
La Belle Amie Vineyard is hosting a Bonfire from noon to 5 p.m. (weather permitting). Admission is free. There will be live music and food and drinks for purchase. You may want to bring a chair.
At 10 a.m., Williams-Sonoma at The Market Common is holding a free Junior Chef class for kids ages 5-13. This week’s class is “Sweet & Savory Crepes.” RSVP is requested (843) 238-2029.
Monday (1/18)
The Grand Freedom Parade, honoring Martin Luther King, Jr., will take place at 11:45 a.m. The parade will begin at the Pelican’s baseball field and go East on 21st Avenue North. Admission is free.
