Boat show shoves off for whole weekend

The 33rd annual Grand Strand Boat & Sportsman Expo will sail all weekend at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, at Oak Street and 21st Avenue North.

Show hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, with admission of $8 for ages 13-64, $6 ages 65 and older, and $5 ages 3-11, and free ages 2 and younger.

Scheduled seminars are:

▪ Friday – “Boating Basics” at 11 a.m. with U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, “In-shore Fishing ‘Carolina Style’” 1 p.m. with Capt. Mike McDonald, “Techniques for ‘Carolina Kings’” 3 p.m. with Capt. Jason Burton, and “Safety on the Water” 4:30 p.m. with U.S. Power Squadron.

▪ Saturday – “Kayak Fishing Made Easy” 10:30 a.m. with Mike Eady, “Secrets of In-shore Fishing” noon with Capt. Lin Fore, “The King Slinger” 1:30 p.m. with Capt. Jason Burton, In-shore Fishing ‘Carolina Style’” 3 p.m. with McDonald, and “Trailer Towing” 4:30 p.m. with Wesco Trailers.

▪ Sunday –“Kayak Fishing Made Easy” noon with Eady, “In-shore Fishing ‘Carolina Style’” 1:30 p.m. with McDonald, and “How to ‘Throw That Net’” 3 p.m. with Burton.

‘Little Mermaid Jr.’ leads weekend of events

Bluegrass concerts shift to second Saturday monthly

The Rivertown Bluegrass Society begins its new year by moving its concerts to the second Saturday monthly, staying at Horry-Georgetown Technical College’s Burroughs & Chapin Auditorium, off U.S. 501 in Conway.

For the outing this month, this Saturday, the Davis Bradley Band will play at 5 and 7:15 p.m., and the Kevin Prater Band at 6 and 8 p.m., at

Tickets are $12 for ages 12 and older, otherwise free.

On Feb. 13, Rutherford County Line and the Subject to Change Band are slated to entertain.

Planetarium, museum roll out new schedules

Two sister hubs in southern Brunswick County begin their winter-spring schedule, through May 21.

Ingram Planetarium, 7625 High Market St., Sunset Beach, N.C., opens at 11:30 a.m. Fridays-Saturdays through Jan. 2, with this schedule of Sky Theater dome shows , with each 1 p.m. show at half price:

▪ Fridays – “Dinosaur Passage to Pangaea” at noon, “Tales of the Maya Skies” 1 p.m., “Undiscovered Worlds” 2 p.m., and “Legends of the Night Sky” 3 p.m.

▪ Saturdays – “Accidental Astronauts” noon, “Seven Wonders” 1 p.m., “Dynamic Earth” 2 p.m., and “Astronaut” 3 p.m.

Laser light and music shows happen one weekend monthly, starting with:

▪ Jan. 22 – “Laser U2” 6 p.m., and Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” 7 p.m.
