Extra day rounds out ‘Nights of a Thousand Candles’

Brookgreen Gardens’ 16th annual “Nights of a Thousand Candles” lights up for a third and final weekend, 3-10 p.m. Thursday-Sunday, with an extra day tacked on.

Scheduled entertainment through Saturday on multiple stages is from the Mike Frost Band, and Palmetto Bronze (handbells), each 4, 6 and 8 p.m.; and Paul Grimshaw Band and Vocal Edition each 5, 7 and 9 p.m. Then, on Sunday: Melissa Porshay (pronounced Por-SHAY) at 4, 6 and 8 p.m.; Ron Daise’s “The Gullah Christmas Story” 6 and 8 p.m.; and Grimshaw, and Bates Holman and Friends, each 5, 7 and 9 p.m.

Admission is $18 ages 13 and older ($14 members), $10 ages 4-12 ($8 members); and free ages 3 and younger.

The gardens, on U.S. 17, between Murrells Inlet and Litchfield Beach, across from Huntington Beach State Park, are open outside of festival days, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. daily, with admission lasting seven days: $15 ages 13-64, $13 ages 65 and older, $7 ages 4-12, and free ages 3 and younger.

Also, two special exhibits continue through Jan. 3:

▪ “Holiday Memories: Trains, Trees, and Treasures” – including model train displays, and paintings by Angela Trotta Thomas, “The Train Lady”

▪ “Peace on Earth” in horticultural theme.
