Affordable holiday events throughout the Grand Strand

There are still a lot of holiday events going on over the next few weeks, so make sure you take advantage of all the free and cheap activities. Here’s what’s happening:

Saturday and Sunday (12/12-12/13)

The Conway Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual Christmas parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday in downtown Conway. Admission is free. The parade will feature commercial floats, bands, local dignitaries, beauty queens and a variety of decorated entries.

The annual Christmas parade for the town of Surfside Beach will also take place on Saturday; theirs is at 2 p.m. The parade will begin on Ocean Boulevard at Melody Lane, travel north to Surfside Drive, turn left on Surfside Drive and proceed to Poplar Drive. Admission is free.

On Sunday from 2-6:30 p.m., the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual Christmas Towne celebration at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Admission is free, as is parking. This event includes balloon art, face painting, free rides and inflatables, free photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, free treats, live entertainment and the official Myrtle Beach tree lighting ceremony.

Thursday (12/17)

Conway Downtown Alive is putting on a Canine Christmas Costume Contest from 7-8 p.m. on 3rd Avenue in Downtown Conway. Admission is free for spectators; there’s a $10 entry fee for dogs. In addition to the costume contest, there will also be contests for best kisser, best singer, best dancer, best trick and more.

Saturday (12/19)

If you’d like to have breakfast with Santa, you can do so at 8 or 10 a.m. at Hard Rock Café. Tickets are $9.95. Registration is required 843-946-0007, ext. 208. In addition to breakfast, there will also be activities for the kids.

The Market Common is having a Holiday Bazaar from noon to 4 p.m. on Howard Avenue. Admission is free. Vendors will be selling holiday crafts, live greens and fresh food items.

Monday (12/21)

For just $5 each, you can take the family to see the Student SNOWcase at the Uptown Theatre at the Myrtle Beach Mall. Students from the Carolina Improv Company will be performing. The show runs from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and is appropriate for all ages.
