Skimmyhorn is not for the birds
Bartender
▪ Christian Skimmyhorn
(of the German Skimmyhorns)
Bar
▪ Crafty Rooster, 1125 Third Avenue, Conway
Surge: Have you ever been out of the country?
Christian Skinnyhorn: No. Furthest I’ve ever been is Ohio.
S: How long have you been a bartender?
CS: 4 and a half years, probably.
S: How did you get into bartending?
CS: I’ve been serving since I was 18, and I’ve always wanted to bartend and so finally when I had the chance here, I immediately took it.
S: Are you from here originally?
CS: From Murrells Inlet, yeah.
S: First job?
CS: My very first job was at Bruster’s Ice Cream in Murrells Inlet, scooping ice cream.
S: Favorite movie?
CS: I’d probably say Star Wars.
S: Have you ever attended a Star Wars premiere in costume?
CS: I never have.
S: Favorite band?
CS: Mumford & Sons.
S: Favorite song?
CS: “Hopeless Wonderer.”
S: How did you become a bartender?
CS: I started serving here [Crafty Rooster] about four years ago, and they had a shortage of bartenders at the time, and I had been here the longest.
S: How long did it take you to get comfortable behind the bar?
CS: I would say probably a year to get comfortable.
S: What is your favorite drink to make?
CS: We don’t get a lot of martinis here, I enjoy making those.
S: What is your favorite drink to consume?
CS: I usually drink ciders, and I like Bay Breezes.
S: Have you ever had a dine and ditch?
CS: I have, it was at another restaurant I worked at. It was a really busy night, it was a UFC fight. I had so many tables, and everybody got up at the same time and left.
S: Do you have any phobias?
CS: I hate birds. They carry illnesses around with them, they can literally take an illness from one country to another one. That’s so gross to me. I can’t even get near a bird.
S: Now when did that start?
CS: Oh it’s been my whole life. I would cry anytime birds got near me.
