Don’t miss Bourbon Street’s Local’s T-Day Week
A four-day “Thanksgiving Local’s Appreciation” event will fill the air with live music this week from Wednesday – Saturday at Bourbon Street Bar & Grill in Myrtle Beach. Featured bands include The Harvest, PaperWork, Bullfrog, and Brad Long. The strong lineup showcases some of the Grand Strand’s most talented and diverse acts playing everything from psychedelic surf rock, to horn-assisted pop/rock, indie folk-rock, classic rock and new country—a veritable cornucopia of sounds and styles, perfect to kick off the holidays. Each band on each night will start their first set at 10 p.m.
Wednesday (11/25)
The Harvest performs three to five times per month on average, usually along the north end of Myrtle Beach at Hurricane Maggie’s, Pine Lakes Tavern, and this week at Bourbon Street. With a mix of covers and originals this young band leans toward ethereal surf rock, Modest Mouse-esq indie rock, classic Beatles and 60s covers, and originals. Grant Nesmith, lead vocalist and lead guitarist, fronts this four-piece band of local 20-somethings (and an almost 20-something). Joining Nesmith are Cole Rateliff (drums), Gray Singleton (guitar), Bruce James (bass guitar).
Thanksgiving (11/26)
PaperWork returns to Bourbon Street with its full lineup and cast of occasionally rotating guests. The band, primarily based out of Pawleys Island and the South Strand, performs a diverse mix of danceable pop and funk from the 60s through current hits. Adding their own twist to covers and mixing in creative originals are the hallmarks of this popular act that draws young party-loving crowds. After your turkey is fully digested and Nana and Gramps have gone to bed, here’s your chance to sneak out and let loose.
Friday (11/26)
After forming in 2005, and moving through a few incarnations and personnel changes, Bullfrog evolved into one of the most popular acts on the Grand Strand with its intellectual approach to rock ‘n’ roll. With the recent departure of keyboardist Tom Brady, the now four-piece act performs cover songs you won’t hear from any other band, including dead-on renditions from Mumford & Sons, Pink Floyd and the like, along with clever and creative originals. The band is popular with area musicians, and enjoys a loyal following. Fronted by veteran singer/songwriter and guitarist Jeremy Dunham, along with longtime musical partners Shaun Brown (vocals/guitar), John Spulka (bass guitar), and drummer TJ Marks.
Saturday (11/27)
Are you a B-Longer? Adding unparalleled professionalism to the Grand Strand’s mix of acts, veteran multi-instrumentalist and singer Brad Long (and company) never fail to deliver. Long, who takes center stage at Carolina Opry as the go-to crooner, may have his heart in his original new country compositions, but his high tenor voice is unmatched when covering Journey, The Outfield and other classic rock icons. His band of talented multi-instrumentalists, a billion-dollar P.A. system, light show, and focused dedication to the content and presentation of each performance has made him the most popular out of just a handful of scheduled regulars at Bourbon Street. His loyal following, cleverly called “B-Longers” show up each time the act performs.
Many other area music venues have strong holiday line-ups designed to entertain former locals who may be returning to visit family, and those of us who don’t leave town, but are ready to kick off the holidays with live music and a gathering of friends. Don’t miss out.
