With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, and a host of local activities for this hauntingly happy occasion begun last weekend, many children might get to wear their costumes at least twice this year.

A bevy of boo-filled outings continue this weekend, including trick-or-treating at four outdoor shopping complexes, all on Saturday:

▪ 3-5 p.m. at The Hammock Shops Village, on U.S. 17 in Pawleys Island. 843-235-6355 or www.thehammockshops.com

▪ 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, with fireworks at 8 p.m. 843-444-3200, 800-386-4662 or www.broadwayatthebeach.com.

▪ 5-7 p.m. at Barefoot Landing, on U.S. 17, on south end of North Myrtle Beach.

▪ 5-7 p.m. at The Market Common in Myrtle Beach, including complimentary carriage rides. 843-839-3500 or www.marketcommonmb.com.

Trick-or treating also remains a tradition during the annual “Halloween on the Marsh Walk,” in that cluster of seven restaurants on U.S. 17 Business in Murrells Inlet. Children are welcome to collect candy 5-6 p.m. Saturday, then take part in a youth costume contest at 6 p.m. at the pirate statue behind Drunken Jack’s restaurant. The adult masquerade contest goes from 7-10:30 p.m., with such categories as “Big & Bulky” and Murrells Inlet-themed.

Another reason to have Halloween on Saturday this year: We fall back, with an extra hour of sleep on tap for many people after a day of festivities. The end of daylight-saving time happens at 2 a.m. Sunday, with the return to standard time, and all clocks are turned back to 1 a.m. at that instance.

Also, for long-term planning, with 2016 being a leap year, Halloween happens on a Monday next time around.
