‘Forever Plaid,’ ‘In the Spotlight’

Two groups open shows, with one production lasting three weekends:

Family Kingdom’s final weekend in 2015

It’s time for a last hurrah for summer and rides. Family Kingdom Amusement Park will call it a year with a final weekend, opening, weather permitting, at 6 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday, and staying open until as late as midnight, as conditions allow.

Find the park at 300 S. Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach. Admission is free, and wristbands for all ages – which do not include go-carts and zip lines – are $26.95 plus tax (or $15.50 total for local residents with ID, sold only in the office under the Swamp Fox), and individual ride tickets cost $1.15 plus tax each, with 2-6 tickets per ride, or in packages of 26 tickets for $25, or 54 for $50, each plus tax.

After this weekend, people still with an appetite for amusement park fare, still have an easy escape in Carowinds, off Interstate 77, near Fort Mill, near the N.C.-S.C. line, in suburban Charlotte. The park is open 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Saturdays-Sundays through Nov. 2.

Also, the “SCarowinds' Halloween Haunt,” a PG-13-rated event, which has a separate ticket required for admission, is available 7 p.m.-midnight Fridays-Sundays through Oct. 31, and open till 1 a.m. on the last two Saturdays.

‘Sunshine’ grief day camp helps youth

Lower Cape Fear Hospice will have a free Sunshine Family Day Camp for families with children coping with the death of a loved one, 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 623 Village Road S.W., Shallotte. The setting will let attendees share memories, express feelings, release anger, and learn from life experiences.

Parents are encouraged to accompany children. The camp will include inflatables, games, and crafting, and snacks and a light lunch are provided.

CCU ice hockey club plays third season

With pucks dropping next week to start the National Hockey League season, the Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers ice hockey club already has begun its third year of play.

Although the club has few home dates, at its practice base at the Wilmington Ice House in North Carolina, fans are encouraged to follow the team’s results, and take easy escapes for entertainment to see games across the region. The remaining schedule, with five games in the books, are against:
