New Netflix Docuseries Revisits Michael Jackson's Child Molestation Trial

Netflix will be releasing a three-part docuseries titled Michael Jackson: The Verdict, which will follow the legendary musician's 2005 child molestation trial.

"It has been 20 years since the trial of Michael Jackson in which he was found not guilty. Yet, to this day, controversy still rages. No cameras were allowed in court, and so the public's view of the facts at the time were filtered by commentators and presented piecemeal. It was time to take a forensic look at the trial as a whole," the streaming service said in a statement.

"Anyone interested in the Michael Jackson story should feel this documentary gives them a window into what was largely a closed event and a chance to feel closer to what happened," the statement continued.

In the series, there are numerous interviews with people involved in the trial, including some of the jurors, as well as media who were inside the courtroom. It provides a look at both the prosecution and the defense sides.

"The aim was to take the audience inside the proceedings and only speak to eyewitnesses who played a part in those events," the filmmakers added in the statement.

The widely followed trial saw Jackson charged with multiple counts of child molestation in 2003. It lasted 14 weeks in the Santa Barbara Superior Court, and after deliberating for a week, the jury found the musician not guilty on all 10 felony charges. He was facing more than 20 years in prison.

This new series comes after the biopic "Michael" dominated theaters last month, which told Jackson's story from childhood to becoming one of the most famous pop stars. However, the movie did not touch on the numerous allegations he faced, including this case. Jackson maintained his innocence up until his passing in 2009.

The docuseries will premiere on June 3.
