Sour Patch Kids' New Chews Have Fans Doing a Double Take at the Texture

The mouth-puckering little fellows you know and love are getting a glow-up. Sour Patch Kids just debuted brand-new "Chews," and the updated version of this classic candy is getting plenty of attention.

Forget about what you think Sour Patch Kids are. Yes, the name of sugar-coated confection is premised on the fact that the individual candies are shaped like "kids." But with this new product, the brand is throwing all of your preconceptions out the window.

Instead of sweet on the inside, sour on the outside, teeny tiny sort-of stickman-shaped gummies, the latest creation takes the opposite approach. The Chews have a not-so-subtly sweet exterior and a tangy burst of sourness inside.

Why the change? After all, Sour Patch Kids have been around for decades, and it doesn't seem like candy connoisseurs have complaints. Senior Director, Candy, Mondelez International, Lauryn McDonough, explained, "We know consumers want new textures and experiences when they're in the candy aisle, so we saw an opportunity to bring Sour Patch Kids' signature sour to the world of chewy candy in a new and unique way."

As it turns out, this shake-up started with you…the candy customer. McDonough continued, "After talking to Sour Patch Kids consumers, we learned that Sour Patch Kids Chews are what today's consumers are after - you can sink your teeth into them, there's a bold sensorial experience, and the texture is just right."

When Can You Get the New Sour Patch Kids Chews?

Depending on where you live, you could have already picked up this sweet treat. Look for 1.9-ounce, 2.1-ounce, 5.1-ounce, and 8.1-ounce size bags of the chewy, flipped version of the OG in a store near you now. The new Chews are available in the same classic flavors fans already enjoy, including Blue Raspberry, Redberry, Lemon, Lime, and Orange. But wait. There's more.

In honor of the Chews, Sour Patch Kids just teamed up with some of the top gaming streamers (Cinna, Typical Garner, Gleam, DOUGDOUG, JeromeASF, Juliankins, PartyArlie, and Caryn and Connie) for a YouTube and Twitch livestream event from May through June.

Viewers can join in during interactive Mischief Mode moments and get the chance to win some pretty amazing prizes. One Grand Prize winner will receive a Sour Patch Kids-branded box, a custom-branded Xbox controller, a hoodie, socks, and of course, Sour Patch Kids Chews!
