‘Shrek the Musical Jr.’ in Conway
Theatre of the Republic’s Coastal Youth Theatre arts school, whose students present a play with every seasonal session, will serve up laughs with “Shrek the Musical Jr.”
Times for the hourlong show, by children ages 7-18 in the summer program, are 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday, at the Main Street Theatre, 335 Main St., Conway. Tickets are $15 adults and $7 children.

Model train show rolls in Calabash
The Intracoastal Model Railroad Club, established a decade ago, will have a model train show, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday at its home venue, Brunswick House, 382 Brunswick Drive., Calabash, N.C.
See train layouts in various scales such as G, HO, N, O, S and Z; pick up service suggestions for restarting broken locomotives; learn ways to get started in this hobby; and enter a raffle for a new diesel train set.

Raptor center raring to teach birdwatching
For an easy escape, a raptor center northwest of Charleston will relish taking guests on either of two walks to share “Birdwatching for Beginners and Families,” with children especially welcome.
Pick from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday or Aug. 1 at The Center for Birds of Prey, 4872 Seewee Road, Awendaw, 35 miles south of Georgetown, east of U.S. 17, and the first left south of the Sewee Outpost. Each outing is $20, by reservation at 843-971-7474 only, which includes grounds admission and a guided site tour at 10:30 a.m.
Also, the public is welcome to see dozens of falcons, hawks, owls and other birds of prey, up close, Thursdays-Saturdays, with guided tours at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. and flight demonstrations at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Admission is $15 ages 17-64, $14 seniors and active-duty military, $10 ages 6-16, and free ages 5 and younger – group rates for 25 or more people at $12 ages 17 and older and $8 ages 6-16.
