Pawleys Island festival to see silver this fall

Coordinators of the 25th anniversary of the Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art this fall might “Tell It Like It Is”: another start to autumn with a varied lineup of events and performers, this year headlined by Aaron Neville.

The festival will span four weekends, Sept. 25-Oct. 17, with most events at The Reserve Golf Club in Pawleys Island.

Neville, who hit the top of the charts with “Tell It Like It Is” in 1967, also is known for his work as a member of the Neville Brothers, and for two Grammy Award-winning duets with Linda Ronstadt at the turn of the 1990s. He will perform at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at the golf club.

Other scheduled concerts for the festival’s silver anniversary, all at 7 p.m., are:

▪ A.J. Croce, son of the late Jim Croce, on Oct. 2.

▪ Mike Farris and The Roseland Rhythm Revue, Oct. 8.

▪ Natalie Douglas’ “Jazz Party,” Oct. 9.

▪ Steve Tyrell, Oct. 10.

▪ Ken Lavigne, Oct. 15.

▪ Davis & Johnson and The Fabulous Equinox Orchestra, Oct. 16.

▪ “So Good For the Soul ... A Tribute to the Music of Motown,” Oct. 17, in a tabled event.

Ticket prices and information on these concerts are forthcoming.

The festival will kick off in downtown Georgetown Sept. 25 with the third annual “Seaside Palette en Plein Air,” with artists painting the local surroundings in a judged competition until dusk and resuming at 9 a.m. Sept. 26, with their works available at the annual Wet Paint Sale 3-5 p.m. on the Kaminski House Museum lawn.

Also on Sept. 26, check out the sidewalk art in “Chalk under the Oaks” 9 a.m.-4 p.m on Front Street, with the Squonk Opera performing three half-hour shows of its “Pneumatica,” also in the historic district.

The events on Sept. 25-26 are free to see. The 16th annual Wine & Food Gala, the festival’s main fundraiser, will be 7 p.m. Oct. 1, for $100 per person.

This festival also continues a trend of attracting world-renowned acts for concerts, such as Spyro Gyra in 2011; Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr., formerly of the 5th Dimension, in 2013; and The Manhattan Transfer in 2014.
