THE LOWDOWN
Whether your looking for new flavors, new craft beers or just a new place, Tupelo Honey Cafe is your place. It is now open at The Market Common, and that’s where we went for happy hour this week.
Tupelo Honey Cafe is next to the Tommy Bahama store at The Market Common where the Tommy Bahama Restaurant used to be located. There are currently nine Tupelo Honey locations throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The Myrtle Beach cafe is the largest of these locations.
The atmosphere is warm and inviting with a friendly staff and smiling faces. The establishment is high end yet casual. You can wear your flip flops yet eat delicious dishes such as lamb meatballs with curry sauce and feta. The establishment prides itself on being farm to table, using local products for food and drinks.
Tupelo Honey’s interior is big and beautiful, with local artwork covering the walls. There are two dining areas and a large outdoor patio with tables, couches and a fire pit. Framed windows separate one of the interior dining areas from the bar. The bar area consists of a long marble bar that seats more than a dozen people, as well as booths and tables.
Behind the bar you’ll see a long line of more than 20 beer taps. The craft beers on draft are listed on chalkboard slates hanging on the wall, and above that you’ll see a line of beer bottles indicating the 40-plus types of bottled beer the bar has in stock.
Not only does the bar specialize in craft beers, bartenders can mix up a number of crafty cocktails. A few of them are even “on tap,” including a Whiskey Ginger drink, a Sage-Gin & Tonic drink and a Bloody Mary. The Myrtle Beach Signature Cocktail, specially concocted for this location, is a Frozen Magic Attic Passionfruit-Pina Colada. The Queen Mary is also a popular choice. It’s a 20-ounce golden tomato Bloody Mary topped with grilled shrimp, bacon, asparagus and more.
Happy hour runs from 4 to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Drink deals include half-off pints of beer, $3 craft frozen cocktails, $4 draft Sage Gin & Tonics and $4 draft Whiskey Gingers.
TIPS
There’s free parking on the street and in a lot behind Tuplo Honey Cafe.
