The Ladies Guild at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach is sponsoring a Vintage Fashion Show and Tea April 18. The idea arose when some of its members attended a similar show in Charleston. The Way We Wore in Hilton Head will bring the vintage fashions to North Myrtle Beach for the guild members to model.

“We were so pleased by the fashions [in Charleston],” GeorgAnn Feldman, chair of the event, said. “You don’t see vintage clothes like this. They are from the early 1900s.”

She added that those attending the affair will drink tea from vintage teacups, poured from vintage teapots. Other refreshments will be served, and professional harpist Rebecca Nissen will provide the entertainment.

The women who plan to attend are encouraged to wear their own vintage fashions, from hats to long strings of pearls to any other clothing from the early 20th century. Women’s clothing became simpler, abandoning the frilly look, as the new century progressed. Tailored blouses and skirts were the rage starting in 1908. Flared skirts, raised hemlines and laced-up, heeled boots became popular around 1915. During World War I, black and simplicity were the norm, promoted by Coco Chanel.

“Spend the afternoon reminiscing about the styles through the early decades while sipping tea,” said Lorraine Manning, chair of refreshments. “Join us for a really fun afternoon.”
