Ice rink in Myrtle Beach Mall is open

The opportunity to glide like a figure skater or a blueliner is back on the Grand Strand with “Ice at the Beach.”

A Christmastime indoor skating rink spanning about 1,600 square feet opened at 11 a.m. Friday at Myrtle Beach Mall, in the court in front of the Carmike 12 theater. It will be open daily through at least year’s end, except for Dec. 25.

Grand opening festivities included ice skating demonstrations by former professional skaters Tricia Klocke and Carla Ericson, and an exhibition by current and former ice hockey players from the Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers, a second-year team that practices at a full-size rink in the Wilmington Ice House and has won nine of its first 13 games this season.

Public skating hours for November are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and Nov. 22; noon-6 p.m. Sunday and Nov. 23; 3-9 p.m. Nov. 17-21 and 24-26; 6 p.m.-midnight Nov. 27 (Thanksgiving Day); 6 a.m.-10 p.m. Nov. 28; 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Nov. 29; and 11 a..m.-7 p.m. Nov. 30. Tickets will be $10 for a two-hour session, including skate rental.

The mall is off U.S. 17 at S.C. 22, near Briarcliffe Acres.
