Strand Cinema, a local group that shows independent, foreign and documentary films, has begun a new stretch of screenings into mid-autumn.

‘Listen Up Brunswick County’ concert helps clinic

The “Listen Up Brunswick County” series, benefiting Hope Harbor – a nonprofit assisting victims of domestic violence – has a special concert by Abbie Gardner, Jim Henry, and Sedgewick, 7 p.m. Saturday for $25.

Also, in 2017, for the third annual season series, all at 7 p.m.: Joe Crookston on Jan. 21, Harpeth Rising Feb. 19, The Kennedys March 25, and James Keelaghan April 9, at $60 for season ticket for these four shows, or $20 each advance or $24 at door (cash or check only).

Escape for Charleston International Film Festival

Escape for the ninth annual Charleston International Film Festival, Wednesday-Nov. 6 at Charleston Music Hall, 37 John St., between Meeting and King streets, in downtown Charleston.

“Warrior Road,” a feature independent film shot in Charleston, following three teens who rob a juke joint and flee to Myrtle Beach, opens the fest at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (with reception at 6:30 p.m.), for $25 on that “red carpet” night.

The schedule also includes film blocks at 5, 7 and 9 p.m. Nov. 3-4, mostly with shorts each; and on Nov. 5, mostly with shorts, at 10 a.m. (family friendly), noon and 2, 4, 6 and 8 p.m. Each block is $10, or $79 for all-access pass for the movies.

Also, a brunch and awards gala at 11 a.m. Nov. 6, for $45.
