Orangeburg Co. crash involving a semi & box truck leaves 1 dead, another injured

A car crash in Orangeburg County has claimed the life of one person, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Whetstone and North roads at around 2:45 a.m. Friday, according to Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

While traveling north on Whetstone Road, a 2016 Freightliner tractor trailer collided with a 2023 Mercedes-Benz box truck, which was backing up east from Whetstone, Glover said.

Both the driver of the semi and the box truck were injured and transported to a hospital. The operator of the box truck later died, Glover said.

The dead man was identified as Freddeerico Alexander, 51, of Blair, South Carolina, according to the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office.
