Blog: Still making South Carolina proud: Lindsey Graham says ISIS might kill ALL Americans
Sorry if you've seen this, but I've been out of pocket taking care of a few personal issues and missed Sen. Lindsey Graham taking the scare-Americans-into-compliance tactics to a whole new level.
Lindsey Graham says Americans should be afraid, very afraid
Go here for a really serious, nuanced discussion of the threat we face and why President Obama is doing what he is doing to deal with it.
I have to admit that I'm partly responsible for this, because I actually voted for Graham twice. (Too bad only an unknown Democrat and former Republican drug convict turned independent are challenging him in November.) I don't know what I was thinking. I think I was thinking that he seemed like someone who, during important moments, would place American priorities over GOP ones. Why did I ever think such a thing? I have no clue.
Now he has stepped up the game of hyper-partisanship he has been engaging in the past 5 years to go all into scaring the, um, crap out of every, single American.
According to Graham, ISIS is so strong, so powerful, so overwhelming, has so many super powers - that is, unless President Obama does everything Graham insists he must to fight them - that they could literally kill all of us, roughly 317 million Americans on the homeland.
Behead brave American journalists?
Cause even more unrest and danger in the Middle East?
Pull off a 9/11-level attack against the U.S.?
No, Graham says ISIS is more than a threat to be taken seriously - hardly no one believes it is not a real threat - but is one that might kill us all.
Remember when he talked in a similar fashion in 2001 about Saddam Hussein, convincing many of us to support a war that has caused many more problems for this country than it has solved? That's one of many reasons we should no longer take Graham seriously even as we must confront ISIS and other terrorist groups - but in a measured way that is more concerned with being effective than built upon paranoia.
I am so stunned, I don't know precisely what to say. So I'll turn the microphone over to John Stewart and Samantha Bee:
