Letter | Caitlyn Jenner can’t possibly know what it is like to be a woman

Caitlyn Jenner is no woman

I am perplexed that a man 65 years of age could decide he is a woman and claim that he has always had a woman’s mind.

How would a man know a woman’s mind?

At age 75, I can safely say no man can all of a sudden relate to my experience as a woman. My life has been built on social expectations in a man’s world and has not been formed from a sudden addition of plastic breasts, facial surgery and makeup. Oh, if it were that easy!

I have tremendous sympathy for those caught in the gender quagmire, but let’s not use transgender issues to minimize what it is to be a woman in this society. To think a man could spend 65 years enjoying all of the advantages and benefits of being male in our society and then overnight say he is a woman is simply ridiculous.

Once again we feel the sting of being trivialized. This time it is a dab of red finger nail polish and some lipstick that gets the job done.
