Letter | Bad business to end golf season in Myrtle Beach for snowbirds in the middle of March

ENTERTAINMENT

Why end golf season for snowbirds in middle of March?

The golf course owners involved with the Passport program chose to end "deals" for us Northerners on March 15, knowing that most of us go back home on April 1.

This is my 10th consecutive visit to the area. My wife and I spend two months here, renting accommodations, shopping extensively in local stores, eating in local restaurants, hosting many visitors, playing golf at local golf courses, paying sales and tourist taxes to local coffers.

We pay green fees considerably more than what “local" players pay. I am not sure why the owners chose to cut us off, but I am seriously looking at other destinations that value what we, the tourists, contribute to the community. I believe that the Passport program and that the golf course owners need to seriously consider an April 1 end date for this program. As it stands now, we had to put our golf clubs away on March 15. No money for golf courses, cart people, bag boys. Too bad.
