We are a republic, not a democracy, for a good reason

I have been reading lately in the opinions section about the United States of America being a democracy.

It is not; it is a democratic republic.

Let me explain what a democracy is.

A democracy is where a lion, a tiger and a lamb vote on which one of the three will be eaten for dinner.
