Columbia police make second arrest in child abuse investigation
The Columbia Police Department has made a second arrest in a child abuse investigation.
Kristin Campbell, 31, was charged with Unlawful Conduct toward a Child, Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said in a statement released Monday.
Campbell was arrested at her Easter Street home, where a 7-year-old boy was severely burned after allegedly being placed in scalding water on Oct. 7, Holbrook said. Shane Johnson, 27, was already charged with Infliction of Great Bodily Injury to a Child for his role in the alleged incident, Holbrook said.
According to Holbrook, Johnson and Campbell are also accused of waiting two hours before taking the child to a local hospital, where it was determined the child’s injuries were so severe that he was flown to the Augusta (Ga.) Burn Center, where he continues to receive treatment.
