Seven years ago this Friday an infant who came to be known as Baby Boy Horry was found inside a shopping bag in a ditch and would have survived with routine medial care after his birth if not abandoned, authorities said.

The Horry County Coroner’s Office will hold their annual memorial service for Baby Boy Horry at 1 p.m. Friday where he was laid to rest at Hillcrest Cemetery on S.C. 544 across from Coastal Carolina University.

Donations from local businesses and residents funded his burial, and the coroner’s office holds this service annually on the anniversary of his death to honor his short life and keep his memory alive in the hopes that someone will come forward with information on the case.

Baby Boy Horry was found by utility workers on Dec. 4, 2008 near Meadowbrook Drive, off S.C. 544, in a wooded area, and Horry County police were called out to investigate.

Authorities later developed a DNA profile of the baby, which would help the investigation by allowing police to compare the infant’s DNA with his parents’ DNA.

However, the case remains unsolved.

In South Carolina, Daniel’s Law allows someone to leave an unharmed newborn at a hospital, fire station, church or police station without any questions from authorities.

Anyone with information about Baby Boy Horry can call Horry County police at 915-8477.
