Georgetown County police investigating body found in woods

Georgetown County police are investigating a body found in a wooded area off Pennyroyal Road Wednesday afternoon.

Officers responded around 4 p.m. to Mauresina Road off of Pennyroyal Road, south of Georgetown, to the report of a body in a wooded area. Officers found one body, but the identity of the person is still unknown, Carrie Cuthbertson, Georgetown County police spokeswoman, said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, Cuthbertson said.

Police are still investigating the incident.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to alert police by dialing 274637 from any text-enabled cell phone, and texting the word “GCSOTIP” followed by your message.
