Horry County police release more details in fatal Racepath shooting
When police arrived to a shooting call on Racepath Street in Myrtle Beach, they found a witness applying pressure to a gunshot wound under the victim’s left arm, according to details released Monday about the fatal Friday shooting.
Nigeria McDonald, 21, died from her injuries at Grand Strand Medical Center on Friday night, according to Horry County Coroner Daris Fowler.
Police took James A. Wilson, 22, of North Myrtle Beach, into custody on Saturday afternoon. He was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime on Sunday. No bail has been set.
The witness told officers Wilson shot the victim during a fight between himself, his girlfriend, McDonald and the witness. Wilson ran from the area toward U.S. 501 after the shooting, which occurred around 7:30 p.m., the report said.
When police arrived, they found the victim lying on her back in between two cars, according to the report.
Officers found one spent .40 caliber shell casing next to the victim and several strands of braided weave, which the witness said were pulled out of her head during the altercation. Police also found a black cell phone near the road, according to the report.
