Police arrest victims’ son, three others in connection with Friday’s double homicide at Landmark Resort
The son of the North Carolina couple shot and killed at Landmark Hotel on Friday was one of four people in Myrtle Beach police custody Sunday in connection with the slaying.
Carrie Daley Turner, 52, and Steven Gray Turner, 61, of Durham died from gunshot wounds at the hotel located at 1501 S. Ocean Blvd., according to Horry County chief deputy coroner Tamara Willard.
Police arrested the Turners’ son and three others Saturday after executing a warrant at Monarch Apartments near Coastal Carolina University, Myrtle Beach police spokesman Lt. Joey Crosby said Sunday.
Charges are pending against the Turners’ son and a woman, both of Conway, in connection with the homicide. The Sun News does not identify those accused of crimes until formal charges have been filed.
Grant Anthony Dollens, 20, of Columbia and Roxanna Lisa Cumpan, 18, of Pottstown, Penn., are charged with accessory after the fact. Cumpan also is charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Both Dollens and Cumpan remained jailed in J. Reuben Long Detention Center as of Sunday night. Bond had not been set.
Around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, a university Twitter account instructed all Monarch residents to “evacuate and go to the front office area of the complex.”
Crosby would not say if those in custody are Coastal Carolina University students or if they reside at Monarch Apartments.
Crosby said multiple agencies are assisting in the investigation, including the Conway Police Department, Horry County Police Department, State Law Enforcement Division, U.S. Marshals Task Force and Coastal Carolina University Police Department.
Few details have been released about the murders, which authorities began investigating Friday. Crosby said police were called to the hotel around 5:22 p.m. and their investigation led them to a room on the 12th floor.
Investigators had asked for help from the public to locate a silver 2015 Kia Optima with a North Carolina tag of BCS-9924, but on Saturday Crosby said that vehicle had been located.
