Police charge two in connection with man found shot to death in car Saturday
Myrtle Beach police charged a man and a woman Sunday in connection with the murder of a man found shot to death in his car Saturday morning.
Keith Sheldon Levan, 39, is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Penny Ellen Hubbard, 43, is charged with accessory before the fact to a felony.
Around 5 a.m., police initially responded to the parking lot of the Home Depot near Seaboard Street after getting a call about a car that had crashed into a median.
According to arrest warrants, officers responded to 951 Oak Forest Lane in Myrtle Beach for a reported shooting. Once on the scene officers found Berry Selmon, 50, dead in his car from a gunshot wound to the head.
Police obtained surveillance camera footage and saw images of a suspect’s vehicle. Police also searched Selmon’s phone and found text messages that had been sent and received just before his death, according to the documents.
The text messages led to information on the suspects, who police say went to the station and confessed to the crime, according to the arrest warrants.
Police said Levan told them he found messages on social media that Selmon sent to Hubbard. Levan told police he shot at Selmon’s car with a rifle and then hid it.
According to the arrest warrant, Hubbard told police she agreed to meet Selmon and Levan got angry, grabbed a rifle, and left the house. She did not warn Selmon and did not contact police, according to the documents.
“Based on the fact that [Hubbard] did arrange to meet [Selmon] and knew [Levan] was armed and was going to meet victim she did nothing to stop the shooting from occurring there is probable cause to believe [Hubbard] did commit the offense of accessory to a felony before the act (murder),” according to the warrant.
