Donations: The Grand Strand Detachment #873 of the Marine Corps League is holding Toys for Tots Drive through Dec. 19. The toys should be new and un-wrapped for a boy or girl from ages 2 to 12 years old. The list of toys needed includes: books, markers/crayons, small and large stuffed toys, dolls, toy cars/trucks, toddler toys, preschool toys, games for children, outdoor play equipment, bikes/skates/skateboards, radio/tape player/electronics, jewelry/accessories, and stocking stuffers. Donations: If you or anyone you know would like Santa to write a letter to a child and would like to make a $10 tax deductible donation to the American Cancer Society. Santa will need the child’s name, age, mailing address and their Christmas wish list. Volunteers/donations: Help4Kids and Back Pack Buddies is holding final food drive of the year from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Nov. 14, at Wal-Mart, S.C. 544, Surfside Beach and Neighborhood Market Store at Ocean Lakes. Volunteers/donations: Building Hope Ministries “Heart of Grace” diaper program is in need of volunteers. They meet 10-11 a.m. the first Friday of every month at Liberty Tabernacle, 380 Gray Bridge Road, Shallotte, N.C. Volunteers/donations: gsSCENE seeks “Substitutes for Santa” a community service event that gives 100 underprivileged Loris area children a shopping experience to brighten their holidays; scheduled 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8. Donations needed include: toilet paper, paper towels, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, detergent, soap, shampoo, conditioner, wash cloths and lotions. Donations can be dropped off at either the main MBACC office, 1200 N. Oak St., Myrtle Beach, or all the Ultimate California Pizza and Divine Dining Group (Nacho Hippo, River City Café, Bubba’s Fish Shack and Pawleys Raw Bar) locations throughout the Grand Strand. Volunteers/donations: Whiskers Animal Rescue and Sanctuary in the Loris area is looking for volunteers to help clean and maintain the cat sanctuary and kitten nursery, update social media sites, help with grant writing, foster and/or help with adoption events, craigslist sales of donated items and fundraising. Items needed are bleach, laundry detergent, wet and dry Friskies, Costco, Sam’s or Wal-Mart gift cards. Kitty condos and scratching posts needed. Volunteers/donations: St. Michael Prayer Shawl Ministry is in need of yarn and volunteers to knit and crochet shawls, baby blankets, lap robes, hats and scarves for the sick, homeless, and those in nursing homes or home bound. Volunteers/donations: Kare Team Sanctuary is in great need of volunteers for two or three hours per week to care for our dogs, all rescues, that are fully vaccinated. Dry food, gently used towels, thin blankets and other supplies are needed for the no-kill shelter for abandoned and abused dogs. Call 843-399-9290.
