Myrtle Beach-area organizations need your help

Volunteers: North Myrtle Beach is in need of volunteers to help with citywide cleanup day, 9 a.m.-noon on Nov. 7, at the NMB Sanitation Transfer Station. Call 843-280-5673 or dgbarnhill@nmb.us.

Volunteers/donations: Building Hope Ministries “Heart of Grace” diaper program is in need of volunteers. They meet 10-11 a.m. the first Friday of every month at Liberty Tabernacle, 380 Gray Bridge Road, Shallotte, N.C. Donations: The Friends of the North Myrtle Beach Library are accepting used books for its resale book racks. Please drop the books off at the library, 910 First Ave. S., North Myrtle Beach. Donations: All 4 Paws storage building suffered extensive flooding and are in need of towels and blankets, XL and XXL crates, Dawn dish-washing detergent, HE laundry detergent, tall kitchen and 55-gallon garbage bags, Pine Sol, and paper towels. Items can be dropped off at: 708 Petigru Road, Pawleys Island. Due to the number of animals that were picked up by animal control during the flood, we anticipate the number of animals needing our help will be great this week. Donations: SC Youth Advocate program is in need of help to make Christmas a special time for foster children. All donations go to the children. Donations in the form of gifts, checks, gift cards, etc., will help with the teenagers as well as the younger ones. Donations: Friends of the Carolina Forest Library are accepting used books, magazines, CDs, VHS, DVDs, audio books and textbooks for its resale book store, The Nook. Drop off at library and receive a tax-deduction form. The proceeds are used to purchase items for the library that are not covered by the county library system.

Donations: Quilts of Valor is in need of red, white and blue, cotton fabric to be used in making quilts that are given to veterans and service members who have been touched by war. Monetary donations are accepted to help defray the cost, purchase fabric, batting and thread. Donations: St. Christopher’s Children, a local volunteer-driven charity, has been providing essential clothing and critical orthodontic care to the neediest of children throughout Georgetown County. You can shop or make donations to our resale shop next door to Applewood Pancake House in Pawleys Island.

Donations: North Strand Housing Shelter is in need of paper products, window cleaner, bathroom cleaner, Pine Sol, empty spray bottles, bleach, Oxi Clean, Shout, HE laundry soap, fabric softener, coffee, creamer, sugar, tea bags, bottled water, cereal, crackers, peanut butter, jelly, canned tuna, gasoline gift cards, and under the bed plastic storage containers (48-by-24-by-7 inches deep). Donations: South Strand Helping Hand would appreciate your donations. We serve residents in need from the South Strand area. Donations: The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach is looking for sponsors for shelter pets. If you can’t adopt a dog or cat, this is a good opportunity to honor a loved one or pet by sponsoring a shelter pet in their honor or memory. Visit www.hsnmb.org to sponsor a shelter pet.

A donation to United Way of Horry County focuses on the key building blocks of a good life: education, income and health.
