Aqua Park comes to North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex
A floating playground called the aqua park opened June 3 on a portion of the one-acre lake at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex. Set in various configurations from rafts to slides to slopes, the water attraction elicits approval from children and adults alike.
Beverly Horn of Wilmington, N.C. walked out of the water and stood smiling after spending time at the configuration. “I liked all of it,” she says. “It was fun.” She saw the Aqua Park listing from information she received at Links Golf & Racket Club in North Myrtle Beach where her family is staying. “[The Aqua Park] looked awesome,” she says.
Reservations are required for the 45-minute session of bouncing, swimming, sliding and jumping on the inflatable playground equipment. People are encouraged to make reservations online although they can make them once they get to the park. Each session begins on the hour, but guests can buy additional sessions.
Everyone must wear the park’s prescribed life jackets and must know how to swim. Those seven years old and 45-inches tall can participate. Life guards are on duty.
“It’s fun to watch people have a good time,” says life guard Alexia Woerner of Conway. “This is different. There is nothing like this around here.”
Jeff Trudeau, partner and general manager of the park, says this is the first Aqua Park of its kind on South Carolina and less than 40 of them are in the U.S.
“I like the park aspect,” he says. “It is making the best use of the water and it’s for everyone.”
A separate attraction at another area of the 15-foot deep lake is cable wakeboarding, which came to the Sports Complex a year ago. At the website, it says, this sport is the newest in a list of action sports throughout the world.
“It’s a fun atmosphere and definitely a unique sport,” says Trey White of North Myrtle Beach, a cashier and cable operator at the attraction. “People love it. It’s a fun atmosphere and different. It’s a unique sport.”
“I love the training and helping make this a water ski event where it wasn’t one before,” Trudeau says.
