Plane makes emergency landing at MYR, causes temporary delays

A small aircraft made an emergency landing at the Myrtle Beach International Airport Saturday morning after the plane lost electrical power, and delays occurred at the airport as normal operations were temporarily halted.

At about 10:30 a.m. a small general aviation Cessna C210 aircraft was about two miles from MYR when it lost power and had to make an emergency landing and had to do so without its landing gear properly extended, officials said.

The plane landed about 10:50 a.m. with three passengers on board, and no injuries were believed to have been reported, but the condition of the passengers is unknown, Kirk Lovell, Horry County airport spokesman said.

The plane departed from MYR and was on its way to Hilton Head Island, but returned when it experienced a problem with its alternator, and its landing gear collapsed as it touched down, officials said.

Runway 18-36 closed for more than an hour Saturday, and no takeoffs or incoming flights were allowed at the airport during that time. The FAA gave their permission for the plane’s removal from the runway around noon, and the runway reopened about 12:10 p.m. Saturday, FAA officials said.

Emergency crews from Myrtle Beach Fire Department were on standby as they awaited the plane’s arrival, but were called off, and the airport’s jetport fire rescue team assisted after it landed, authorities said.

The FAA is investigating the incident.
