Update: Name released of CCU student found dead on campus
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating after the body of 21-year-old male student was found dead on the Coastal Carolina University campus Saturday.
Martha Hunn, CCU spokeswoman, confirmed that the man was a student at the school, and University officials sent out the following information in an email to students, staff, and faculty: “It is with great sadness that we notify you of the death of Brandon Devere Scott, a junior art studio major from North Charleston. Plans have not been announced for services at this time. The University will update the community with appropriate information.”
The student was found around 9:30 a.m. Saturday in a dorm on campus, and an autopsy is scheduled for Sunday morning, according to Tony Hendrick, Horry County deputy coroner.
Few details have been released, but Hunn said there is no threat to the campus and all other students are safe.
It is state law that SLED investigate any deaths on college campuses.
