Update: North Myrtle Beach hotel fire contained, nobody injured
North Myrtle Beach firefighters contained a fire on Ocean Boulevard on Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.
Crews were called to Blockade Runner Motor Inn on Ocean Boulevard around 1:55 p.m. for a fire, Chief Garry Spain said. Firefighters contained the blaze in about five minutes and nobody was injured, he said.
There was no one in the room at the time of the fire, Spain said. The blaze may have started from the stove, Spain said, but Horry County Fire Rescue crews are investigating the actual cause.
Most of the damage was contained to the kitchen area of room 508 in the motel, Spain said. There is a little water damage to the room below 508 as well, Spain said.
Lisa Hicks, who was visiting from Lake Norman, N.C., was standing outside of the motel Tuesday afternoon waiting for the all-clear to go back to her room. She was in her third floor room when the smoke alarms went off.
“This is not the way you want to spend your vacation,” Hicks said. “But I’m just glad nobody was hurt.”
Officials closed Ocean Boulevard and Spring Street from 21st Avenue North to Shore Haven Drive in North Myrtle Beach for a few hours while firefighters contained and investigated the blaze, Spain said. The road reopened around 4:45 p.m.
North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue, Horry County Fire Rescue and Horry County EMS responded to the scene. Officials are still investigating the fire.
