Two are dead after a vehicle struck a tree early Saturday in Horry County

Two people are dead after a vehicle struck a tree early Saturday morning in the Galivants Ferry area of Horry County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The single-vehicle crash occurred around 5:45 a.m. on SC 23, also known as Nichols Highway, near Gerald Drive. A 2013 Ford F150 traveling south ran off right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing a seat belt, and one was trapped and the other was ejected, according to Highway Patrol.

The names of the deceased have not yet been released by the Horry County Coroner, and deputy coroner Michelle McSpadden said it may be several days as relatives are contacted and informed.
