Three new exhibits showcase S.C. history

The Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum opens three new exhibits Tuesday, each showcasing major facets in S.C. history: “Rice: Paintings by Jonathan Green,” “Indigo: Works in Denim by Jim Arendt” and “Remnants of the Rice Culture: Photographs by David Shriver Soliday,” all through Jan. 7.

Arendt, the director of Coastal Carolina University’s Rebecca Randall Bryan Gallery, on the main campus in Conway, will give a museum docent tour during a reception, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 8, and lead a workshop for people of all ages, 2-4 p.m. Oct. 28, showing how to create works of art from their old denim jeans.

“Contemporary Conversations II,” with about 40 works by S.C. artists, continues through Dec. 27. Also, swing by “Before I Die,” through Tuesday, on the front lawn and accessible at any time and day for everyone to write down a lifetime dream or goal.

Ingram Planetarium shows in fall flight

Ingram Planetarium, 7625 High Market St., Sunset Beach, N.C., has begun its fall schedule, opening at 11:30 a.m. Thursdays-Saturdays through Jan. 2, and on Nov. 25 and Dec. 28-30, but not Nov. 26, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1).

This schedule of Sky Theater dome shows goes through Nov. 25, with each noon show at half price:
