Socastee’s first year back in Class AAAA officially includes a postseason berth.
The Braves, who found out Friday they’d be in the Class AAAA playoffs after finishing third in Region VI-AAAA, were announced as the No. 14 seed in the Division II bracket. They’ll head to Stratford in the opening round this Friday.
Doug Illing’s team (7-4) enters the playoffs with losses in three of its last four games, including Friday’s 31-15 defeat at Sumter. Stratford (8-3), finished second in Region VII-AAAA after losing to Goose Creek on Friday.
The Knights will serve as the Braves’ third opponent to have at least played for a state title in 2013. Stratford lost to Northwestern 62-35 in last year’s Class AAAA, Division II playoffs. It featured two of the top offenses in the state, and then-Knights quarterback Jacob Park was named South Carolina’s Mr. Football a week later before he headed off to the University of Georgia.
Previously this season, the Braves lost to Sumter (which fell in the in the Class AAAA, Division I finals), and Myrtle Beach, the defending Class AAA champions.
