With Michael Billings out with a concussion, Georgetown turned to Gerald German to pick up the slack in a key Region VII-AAA game.
He certainly came through.
The junior ran 26 times for 121 yards and a touchdown and quarterback Jarvis Brown ran 16 times for 49 yards and a pair of scores as the Bulldogs defeated Lake City 18-13 on Friday night.
“He did a tremendous job,” Georgetown coach Bradley Adams said of German. “He’s always been waiting for the opportunity and he rose to the occasion. He had a big night. He protected the football and ran very hard.”
In a back-and-forth game, Brown scored on a 4-yard run with 3:43 left in the third quarter to put the Bulldogs ahead for good.
It also allowed Georgetown to improve to 2-1 in a region that had four 1-1 teams before the night began.
“It was very big,” Adams said. “We had our backs up against the wall with the situation in our game. I like how our young men just fought and found a way to win in the end.”
Next up for the Bulldogs is Myrtle Beach, which tops the region at 3-0.
“We’re just going to show up to practice and do the best we can,” Adams said. “Our young men will be ready to play at Myrtle Beach next week.”
Adams said the team will have Billings back Monday.
