Dillon proves too much for Aynor

Aynor football coach Jody Jenerette knew that Dillon wasn’t going be an easy opponent from the get-go.

Jenerette was right.

The Blue Jackets were unable to keep up as they fell to their Region VIII-AA foe 47-12.

“I’m just glad to get this one out of the way,” Jenerette said. “Dillon is a tough opponent and every other team in the region still has to play them; I’m glad we got this one out of the way.”

Dillon running back Anthony Blue seemed unstoppable. Blue scored three touchdowns on the ground, starting off with a 35-yarder in the first quarter that put the Wildcats ahead 6-0.

Aynor made a costly mistake early. Shy’Keem Blue intercepted a Nathan Peeples pass and returned it 54 yards for a touchdown to put Dillon ahead 14-0 after Joe Blue scored on the two-point conversion.

The Blue Jackets’ only scoring play in the first half came when Peeples completed an 89-yard pass to Ronique Smith to cut the deficit to one score.

“Damion has been one of our top performers all year,” Jenerette said. “He just got open and was able to score on that pass from Peeples.”

Anthony Blue scored on a 42-yard run with 11:14 left in the first half and scored again on a 22-yard rush with 4:47 left in the second quarter as he put Dillon ahead 27-6. The Wildcats scored again just before halftime as Tyreek Hayes ran in a 59-yard pass from Thomas Grossetti to push the lead to 34-6.

Dillon put the game away on a 39-yard score by Joe Blue early in the third quarter.

Aynor’s Louis Taylor scored on a 13-yard run, but the Blue Jackets still trailed by 28.

Dillon put up another score before the game was over as Ereon Hayes recovered a fumble and returned it 26 yards for the touchdown to make it 47-12.

Even though it was a blowout loss, Jenerette still has a healthy team and is ready for the rest of the slate on the region schedule.

“The main thing is that we’re healthy,” Jenerette said. “We need to stay healthy the rest of the way and we should be good. This one definitely motivates us to do better in our region matchups.”
