Renfrow leads Socastee past Lake City

Lake City and Socastee battled back-and-forth for the whole game Friday.

However, Braves junior quarterback Hunter Renfrow scored four rushing touchdowns to bolster the Socastee football team to a 34-25 victory over the Panthers.

The Braves started out on a good note as Renfrow scored two of his touchdowns in the first quarter to put Socastee up 14-0.

However, Lake City battled back.

Halfback Anthony McFadden scored on a nine-yard rush to cut the Panthers’ deficit to one score. Quarterback Marquise Brown threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to wide reciever Jordan Hanna, but the Braves still held a 14-12 lead.

Delano Walters helped put Socastee back on the right track before halftime as his two big rushes of 40 yards and 47 yards respectively set up his own six-yard rushing touchdown to put the Braves back up 21-12.

McFadden scored on a one-yard rush to cut Lake City’s deficit to three points with about nine minutes left in the third quarter.

Brown completed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Hanna on third and goal as the Panthers got ahead right before the start of the fourth quarter, but that’s when Renfrow turned on the burners.

Austin Stanley’s 25-yard run set up Renfrow’s third touchdown as he scored on a 29-yard run to put Socastee ahead 28-25 in the fourth quarter. Renfrow scored again in the fourth, this time on a 20-yard run with a little over five minutes left four a 34-25 Braves lead.

Socastee’s defense stopped Lake City from getting in the Braves’ territory in the fourth quarter, and forced a turnover-on-downs with a little over a minute left.

The Braves are now 3-0, and will play Conway next Friday.
