Blackmoor Golf Club teaching pro and 2014 Mrs. South Carolina Meredith Kirk organized and hosted an event in June at Blackmoor called the Speed Golf Summer Race, and she has scheduled the Winter Speed Golf Race at Blackmoor at 1 p.m. Dec. 13.
Participants are encouraged run and play holes as fast as they can using only three clubs as two-person teams, with one participant hitting and the other caddying in any alternating fashion they choose. The total number of strokes combined with minutes is the Speed Golf score.
The event will benefit the Junior Golf Exchange, which provides golf clubs to youth through monetary and equipment donations, and St. James High girls golf team, which Kirk coached in 2010-11, and the Sharks players are participating and assisting in the running of the event.
”It’s something fun to do this winter and will raise some money for the Junior Golf Exchange and some things the St. James girls need,” said Kirk, who coached some of the current St. James players. “I thought it would be fun to unite with them and help them raise money as well.”
