Karl-Anthony Towns Acknowledges Victor Wembanyama's ‘Generational' Talent
New York Knicks big man Karl-Anthony Towns outplayed San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama through the first two games of the 2026 NBA Finals.
Towns has been excellent on both ends of the floor, making things difficult for Wembanyama on defense and scoring against the unanimous Defensive Player of the Year in a variety of ways.
Before Game 3 on Monday, Towns was asked about his matchup with the 7-foot-4 Frenchman.
“It’s great when you get to go against a great player,” Towns said. “A player that I’ve spoken about countless times that’s going to be a generational player. Something we’ve never seen in the NBA before. To be able to go and play in this moment against the best is all you can ask for.”

The Knicks hold a 2-0 series lead over the Spurs, stealing both Game 1 and Game 2 in San Antonio. Towns averaged 19.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game through those series-opening contests.
Wembanyama enters Game 3 averaging 27.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game in the NBA Finals, but he’s struggled with his efficiency from the field. He’s also averaging five turnovers per game, including a crucial mistake that sealed the Spurs’ fate in the fourth quarter of Game 2.
