WNBA Champion Waived After 10 Games Played
After waiving Joyner Holmes on Saturday, the Seattle Storm freed up another roster spot. This time, the team released one-time WNBA champion Lexie Brown.
Brown played 10 games for the Storm in the 2026 season, averaging 3.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 14.8 minutes per contest.
"The Seattle Storm announced today the team has waived guard Lexie Brown," the Storm stated in a press release.
Overall, Brown made 34 appearances for the Storm after being acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Sparks. Seattle gave away its 2025 and 2027 second-round picks in exchange for Brown and L.A.'s 2025 third-rounder.
During her brief time with the Storm, Brown averaged just 2.6 points on 39.2% shooting, along with 0.9 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game.
Why Did the Storm Release Lexie Brown?
The Storm are currently riding a five-game losing streak. They are 3-9 on the season, putting them at No. 14 (out of 15 teams) in the WNBA standings.
Considering their struggles, it appears the Storm are not happy with Brown's production. It's also possible that the veteran guard, drafted in 2018, is dealing with some personal issues. Brown has missed their last two games, with Seattle noting she was "not with team."
It is unknown what the Storm plan to do with their open roster spots after moving on from Holmes and Brown, but it certainly gives them enough room to make some key changes in their search for a boost early in the season.
As for Brown, she will now go on waivers. If she remains unclaimed, she will be a free agent.
It remains to be seen if another team will pick up Brown. She has proven in the past that she can contribute to a team. In 2023, she averaged 12.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists for the Sparks.
She was also part of the Chicago Sky's championship-winning team in 2021.
