Madison Square Garden Accused Of 'Ignoring' Proper Safety Protocols
Security lines outside of Madison Square Garden in New York City are extremely long on Monday evening, June 8.
The Knicks, up 2-0, are set to host the Spurs in Game 3. President Trump is expected to be in attendance. New York announced added security measures for Game 3.
"As we move closer to Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Monday night, Madison Square Garden and the United States Secret Service want to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all ticket holders by sharing important security procedures that will be in place," the Knicks announced.
"A strict no-bag policy will be in effect, and fans should make every effort to limit personal items to an absolute minimum. Fans should expect enhanced security measures when entering Madison Square Garden, including TSA-style screening procedures. Guests are strongly encouraged to arrive at least two hours before tip-off to allow additional time for screening and entry. Fans are encouraged to review the complete list of prohibited items before arriving at https://www.secretservice.gov/prohibiteditems. There will be no storage available for prohibited items brought to the venue."
However, as the Knicks are facing scrutiny for the atmosphere at Game 3, one reporter has sounded off, accusing Madison Square Garden of failing to follow proper safety protocols previously.
"To be clear, this isn't about protecting fans. According to former MSG staffers, the Garden has at times ignored basic standard security protocols, as our @WIRED / @pablofindsout investigation detailed. This is about protecting Trump -- while inconveniencing everyone else," Noah Shactman reported.
New York Police announce Game 3 plans, too
"Tonight is Game 3 of the NBA finals – an exciting time for New York City – and we want everyone to be able to enjoy the game safely. With tonight's presidential visit, there will be extra security measures in and around MSG that the NYPD and Secret Service have planned together," NYPD announced.
"Starting at 4pm today, vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be closed from West 30th Street to West 35th Street between 6th Avenue and 8th Avenue. No one will be allowed inside the secure area unless you have a ticket to the game, a train ticket, are going to a business inside the area, have credentials, or have some other authorized reason to be there."
Game 3 is set to tip off at 8:30 p.m. E.T. on ABC.
