Blue Jays Make Trey Yesavage Decision Ahead of Yankees Series
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Trey Yesavage has picked up right where he left off in 2026. The 22-year-old broke out during the 2025 season, earning a call-up in September and taking off from there, helping lead the Blue Jays to the World Series.
He had a historic individual run as well, breaking the all-time rookie single-game strikeout record during Game 5 of the Fall Classic.
He has continued that success this season. Across his first eight starts, he owns a 3.16 ERA and a 1.172 WHIP, collecting 44 strikeouts in 42 2/3 innings of work. Yesavage still holds rookie eligibility, putting him in the race for American League Rookie of the Year.
Toronto's pitching staff has seen its fair share of injuries this season, contributing to an underwhelming year thus far as the Blue Jays enter Monday's series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies at 32-34.
Yesavage himself is included in that list, having missed the first month of the season with a right shoulder impingement.
Fortunately, the team is starting to get healthier, and it directly impacts Yesavage. Both Dylan Cease and Max Scherzer are set to rejoin the starting rotation this week.
As a result, Blue Jays manager John Schneider revealed the team has decided to push Yesavage back to start Friday's series opener against the New York Yankees (h/t Shi Davidi of Sportsnet).
Dylan Cease starts tomorrow, Max Scherzer on Wednesday and their looming returns will give the Blue Jays five starters in the rotation.

John Schneider added that Trey Yesavage will be pushed back to Friday's opener vs the Yankees.
Spencer Miles returns to a mixed relief role.
Yesavage last pitched on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles and was originally scheduled to start Wednesday's series finale against the Phillies.
Instead, he will get two extra days of rest and will face off against Toronto's AL East division rivals.
