The Myrtle Beach volleyball team’s season came to an end at the hands of Aiken, which defeated the Seahawks 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-18) on Thursday in the third round of the Class AAA playoffs.
Coastal Carolina junior Lena Schaeffner (Rettigheim, Germany) has been selected as the Choice Hotels Big South Women’s Golfer of the Week, while teammate Malene Krolboll Hansen (Taastrup, Denmark) is The Crons Brand Women’s Golf Freshman of the Week for events played Oct. 23-29, according to a new release.
Schaeffner captured her first career tournament title at the Palmetto Intercollegiate (par 72, 5,972 yards), leading Coastal to the team title as well. She shot rounds of 68-73-71 for a 4-under 212 and one stroke victory. Schaeffner tied her career-best for lowest 18-hole score (68 in the first round) and established her personal-best 54-hole total (212), which tied for second-best in Coastal history. She led the tournament field with 15 birdies -- including one on the 18th hole during the final round -- and in par-4 scoring, playing the holes a combined 1-under.

Hansen finished seventh at the Palmetto Intercollegiate, marking the second consecutive top-10 finish of her collegiate career. She carded rounds of 70-71-77 for a career-best 54-hole score of 218 (+2). Her opening round 70 was a career-best, and she now has three of her 12 rounds this season at par or better. Hansen tallied 33 pars during the tournament and ranked second in par-4 scoring, playing the holes a combined 1-over.
