Lions' den: CCU to play Penn St.

Coastal Carolina will open the 2008 football season at Big 10 powerhouse Penn State.

The game, which has been rumored for years, has been confirmed on a 2008 schedule posted on Penn State's athletic Web site, meaning a contract has been signed for the schools to meet on Aug. 30, 2008 in State College.

The terms of the contract were not immediately available.

Coastal has yet to officially announce the news.

The game will mark the first time Coastal has played a Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) team. The Chanticleers have agreed to play in Death Valley against Clemson in 2014.

The game will serve as a homecoming for Coastal Athletic Director Warren Koegel, who played for legendary Nittany Lions coach Joe Paterno before graduating in 1971. Paterno is entering his 42nd season as Penn State's head coach.

The game will be played at Beaver Stadium, one of the nation's largest stadiums. It holds more than 107,000 people.
