Loris

Established | Incorporated in 1902.

Origin of name | Some say it was named for a novel, others say it was named for a canine pet, but either way it originated with the Chadbourn brothers who built the railroad to Conway in 1887, and built a depot in an area that was a cornfield. The city immediately began to grow around the depot.

What’s grand about it | Trains still run on the tracks in the middle of “The City with no Limits,” about 25 miles west of North Myrtle Beach near the N.C. state line. It is a thriving agricultural, business, educational, medical, cultural and religious community. Only a few miles from Tabor City, N.C., Loris and Tabor were long known as the twin cities.
