Carolina Forest
Established | Steady development began in the mid-1990s.
Origin of name | International Paper, which owned all of the land, including the former bombing range, chose it from a list of 30 potential names compiled by company focus groups.
What’s grand about it | Carolina Forest experienced the greatest amount of growth between the 2000 and 2010 censuses, skyrocketing by more than 500 percent. And with its large influx of people came lots of new opportunities for those who call that 11,000 acres between Conway and Myrtle Beach home, including a slew of taverns and restaurants at both ends of Carolina Forest Boulevard, with pub crawls, trivia nights and other activities.
Major events | In the spring, the community hosts some exciting extracurricular activities, like the Krispy Kreme Challenge and the Dirty Myrtle Mud Run.
What’s new | The new library branch and recreation center have opened their doors to the growing population.
Major employers | Carolina Forest schools and Horry Telephone Cooperative.
Property tax rate | 175.4 mills. Figures include both county and school millage.
