Established | 1914.
Origin of name | The source of the name is a mystery, although Burroughs and Collins Company purchased the land called Aynor Tract. Others, like native Carlise Dawsey, have speculated that the land belonged to Jacob Eykner, whose name was often spelled Eynner.
What’s grand about it | The “Little Golden Town” is about 30 miles west of Myrtle Beach and is known as the gateway to the Grand Strand. With the addition of several national restaurants and retailers, the town’s business corridor is growing.
Major events | The Aynor Hoe-Down Festival is a community festival with vendors held annually in the fall at the town’s park.
What’s new | The long-awaited Aynor Overpass, an alternative to traffic on U.S. 501, opened ahead of schedule in August.
